The final Team USA roster for the 2016 IIHF Ice Hockey Women’s World Championship has been named while Russia and the Czech Republic start their camps.

18 of the 23 players on the Team USA roster were on the team that helped the U.S. earn the gold medal at the 2015 IIHF Ice Hockey Women's World Championship. The roster also features 13 members of the silver medal-winning 2014 U.S. Women's Olympic Ice Hockey Team.

The 23 players represent 13 different states. Massachusetts leads the pack with four representatives followed by Wisconsin with three. Meghan Duggan will serve as team captain, Kacey Bellamy and Monique Lamoureux were named alternate captains. The Americans will hold their preparation camp in Everett, Washington, 18-24 March before moving to Kamloops.

Russian national women’s team coach Mikhail Chekanov named three goaltenders, 10 defencemen and 19 forwards for the preparation camp including an exhibition game against an All-Star Team of the Russian women’s hockey league. The team will fly to Canada on 20 March where the four players from club teams in North America will join.

“We had seven months of training and played in six international competitions with 20 games against strong opponents. We will find the optimal roster and get in shape for the most important tournament of the season. The players are ready to compete for the top places [at the Women’s World Championship] and to qualify directly for the Olympic Games,” Chekanov said.

The Czech Ice Hockey Association nominated 22 players for the preparation camp from 15 to 19 March in Turnovo who may be named for the Women’s Worlds in Kamloops as well. Nine players join from the domestic league, five play in Canada, three in Russia, three in Sweden and two in Switzerland.
