Martin Hasson, who will continue working on her goalie academy, stays with Linkopings HC as the General Manager of the women’s team and one of her most important tasks was to find her own successor in the net.

She hit a home run with her first job as manager, signing Swiss netminder Florence Schelling, one of the most successful goalies in recent years in international women’s ice hockey.

With Martin Hasson one of the most successful European goaltenders in women’s hockey leaves the ice. Her most recent IIHF appearance with the women’s national team at the 2015 IIHF Ice Hockey Women’s World Championship on home ice in Malmo might be the last IIHF tournament in her career, though she hasn’t formally retired and as she pointed out earlier keeps her future after the 2015/16 season open.

The Stockholm native started her international career as a 15-year-old at the 2001 IIHF Ice Hockey Women’s World Championship.

One year later she had already appeared in three games at the Olympics in Salt Lake City, and in Turin 2006 she played a big role in the biggest upset in international women’s hockey when Sweden beat Team USA 3-2 in the semi-finals of the Olympic women’s ice hockey tournament. Martin Hasson made 37 saves and didn’t let in a shot in the shootout to lead Sweden to the gold medal game.

The silver medal was the highest achievement ever for a European team in women’s hockey, prior to that game all other Women’s Worlds or Olympic finals ended with a game between Canada and the United States.

Kim Martin Hasson was named Best Goalie and onto the All-Star Team at the 2006 Olympics. She represented her country in four Olympic Winter Games and played in seven Women’s World Championships but was on the roster for nine Women’s Worlds. This year she was part at the Women’s Worlds for the ninth time but was the backup for Sara Grahn without playing a minute.

After returning from four years in NCAA college hockey with the University of Minnesota-Duluth and one season with a pro contract at Tornado Moscow Region in the Russian women’s league Martin Hasson played the last three seasons from Linkopings HC and led it to the second Swedish championship in two years.

Her successor Schelling was highly successful in the last few years. She was named Most Valuable Player and Best Goaltender of the 2014 Olympic women’s ice hockey tournament after Switzerland beat Martin Hasson’s Swedish team in the bronze medal game. She was also named Best Goaltender at the 2012 IIHF Ice Hockey Women’s World Championship where her outstanding performances in the net were key in Switzerland’s bronze medal win.

Schelling moves to Sweden after four years in the NCAA and two years back home with EHC Bulach in the third-tier men’s league. She signed a one-year contract with Linkoping.
